First Android SMS Trojan Reported

A SMS-based Trojan malware application has been detected by Kaspersky Lab via smartphones. The Trojan is called the Trojan-SMS.ANdroidOS.FakePlayer.a.

The said Trojan disguises itself as a media player application and prompts users to install a 13KB .APK file. It then sends SMS texts to premium numbers, resulting in high charges.

To avoid being infected, Kaspersky Lab recommends paying close attention to application requests when installing new apps.
